Howard Hodgkin (Born 1932)

Hodgkin trained at Camberwell School of Art (1949-50) and at the Bath Academy in Corsham (1950-54), where he also taught for ten years (1956-66). He taught at Chelsea School of Art from 1966 to 1974. In 1984 he represented Britain at the Venice Biennale with Forty Paintings 1973-84, an exhibition which was shown later that year at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in London. In 1985 Hodgkin won the Turner Prize, and in 1992 he was knighted. He is also a prolific printmaker.

In the summer of 2006 Hodgkin’s work will be the subject of a major exhibition at Tate Britain.
